Another quick post to say that yes, I'm still alive, and that yes, I am reading your posts. I would like to be posting more, but I sit down to write something about what's going on these days, and it just doesn't sound right, so I tend to delete it.

So, quick updates...
-taking an extension on my MA - was having a rotten time getting it going the past few months, but the extra time should be enough to do something I'm happy with, and proud of.
-still working part-time through FSWEP - not a bad job, it was just getting on my nerves recently, largely because I was stuck doing a lot of formatting and editing, which isn't exactly my strongest point. Obviously I'm not bad at it (alright, I know I'm pretty good at editing, reading through documents to find errors). I know I managed to find a few horrible mistakes that would have been really embarrassing, but we fixed them. *pat self on back*
-the place is a mess, but it will eventually get fixed up. I really need to do a ton of sorting
-have been taking a SJA break - I'd put in so much time and effort the past 3 years, especially when i was the DO, that I was just burning out. I didn't quit, just went on aux, so I can go back when I have the energy. I want to take an intro fencing course in the meantime, but it's not cheap - $150-175 for jan-april. We'll see.
-some of the coronation street storylines lately (lately as in on CBC, which is 9 months or so behind England) have been so boring. Please let them perk up soon.

gotta run!

sites that really stretch the truth...
[info]eloree
i know this building, and it's not within walking distance of excellent stores, fine restaurants, or coffee shops. Unless you count Tim Horton's as both fine restaurant and coffee shop. Now, if you count being able to walk 3 minutes to a transitway stop as walking distance to stores, etc etc, then yes, it is within walking distance of all that.

This isn't my building, it's just not far from my building, and if I'd decided to look at the building based on the information on their site, I'd be mighty pissed off.

And I love how pictures of apartments never include bookcases. I mean, my kind of bookcase, that overflows with books and spills out onto the floor.

Why am I posting about this? who knows. One of the things I've disliked about my building is that it's not within easy walking distance of anything. However, distance to the bus is a big plus.

Damn. Add in as many strong swear words as you want, but I think my pump has pretty much died. I was trying to do the usual filling up the reservoir, etc etc, and got error messages. So I tried changing the battery, but that didn't work. Tried again, still the same. I'm out of AAA batteries now, but suspect that the problem is that this little pump is dead.

Crap.

While I know that the Ontario government is now giving pumps to type 1 diabetic adults (like me), my next appointment with my endo isn't for a few months. Plus who knows if I'd get one of the free pumps this year. I'm going to have to call and see if I can get an urgent appointment because if the pump can't be revived, I have to do the shots, and it's been ages since I've used a long-acting insulin.

Crap Crap Crap.

I know, I shouldn't be watching CNN, but it's so entertaining sometimes, especially when there's a hurricane a-blowin'.

And one person was pronouncing Gustav as "gust-have" - like gust of wind. Ok, that's not as bad as some pronounciations, but it amused me.

I haven't been posting much anywhere recently. Things are just so busy that I don't want to look at a computer much when I have some downtime.

However, I have to put in one brief, but important post about something that happened yesterday.

Just a couple weeks ago I happened to see an article in the online Ottawa Citizen (a very short one) saying that Pete Seeger was coming to town on July 9th. Somehow I managed to get 4 tickets (the auditorium at Library and Archives only seats 400 at most) for me, Paul, mom and dad. And last night I finally saw Pete Seeger in concert, after listening to him, well, all my life. I wish I could have met him, but they weren't sticking around long after the concert because they were driving to Vermont almost immediately after (plus they had to let an 89 year old man get some rest - had they not taken him to a private room he would have been swamped for hours, I'm sure).

Hope to write more about it soon.

Is everyone tired and/or under the weather these days? I've been tired a lot recently, but yesterday I woke up feeling even more off - went to work (no fever or cold symptoms), but left at noon, came home, and slept a good chunk of the afternoon. I don't do that much unless I'm completely exhausted or sick.

So I've got a dress for 2 upcoming weddings, but I now need shoes and a hat (the hat more for the second wedding, in California).

Where in Ottawa can I find a decent hat (but at reasonable price)?

those idiotic "viewer discretion" warnings
[info]eloree
At one point there seemed to be some point to these things. Sometimes there was no way of knowing what a tv show might have, and I can see why some parents or people might want to know that the show was going to show some scenes of graphic violence or something like that.

However...

When they put a viewer discretion warning for "mature content" before Persuasion (Jane Austen), it's now official that the whole thing is a waste of electricity and whatnot. Sheesh.
Ok, not the first time I've complained about this, maybe the last, but it irritates the crap out of me.

I love Persuasion - it is my favourite Austen book (followed quickly by Pride and Prejudice), and the 1995 movie is a favourite.

the paper still sucks, but it's getting closer ...

I'm guessing the city is using no herbicides cause fields and grassy areas are full of dandelions. I'm not complaining, cause I love seeing the bright yellow flowers on the green.

Changes ahead. We'll see what happens.

My eyesight is still good, just not as good as it used to be. Don't have to wear glasses, although in a few years I may have to wear them at night while driving, or something like that. (20/25 eyesight, whatever that means).
The cool part about the appointment was the retinal picture thing - it's fun to see the back of your eyeballs. :)

happy birthday Emmsteroni!
